Raining season has started and I am starting to see many children with mosquito bites. What worries me is not the bites, but the diseases caused by the bites like malaria, dengue, etc.
Mosquitoes and mosquito bites can be prevented by following these tips:
Keep your house clean: Everyday, atleast twice, mopping must be done with a good detergent. Garbage must be disposed regularly and the garbage bin must be cleaned and kept outside the house.
Remove clutter inside and outside the house: Don't stack or hoard stuff under the beds, behind the beds, behind the doors, etc.
Keep bathrooms and drains very clean.
Make sure there is no water stagnation in and around the house.
Close windows and doors just before sunset, but remember it is day-time mosquitoes which cause Dengue.
Use a mosquito repellent thrice a day in exposed parts. If the skin is sensitive, apply it on clothes.
Can spray citronella oil or lemon grass oil on bed clothes and clothes of the child.
Use mosquito nets for sleeping.
Put white or off-white or dull color clothes which do not attract mosquitoes.
Do not eat food in bedrooms.
Use fan as much as possible because windy air prevents mosquitoes from flying.
Use mosquito bats to kill the remnant mosquitoes behind appliances, cots, cupboards, doors, under the cot, etc.
